ROYA is an electronic/dance-pop duo from Aarhus, Denmark, formed by Line Gade and Sebastian Igens.

 

Line’s distinctive voice and introspective lyricism weave seamlessly with Sebastian’s bold, syncopated productions, creating a sound that is at once emotionally resonant and playfully inventive. At the heart of their process lies spontaneity: many tracks begin as live experiments, offhand samples, or fleeting ideas, evolving organically into instinctive, genre-blurring compositions.

 

In just one year, ROYA has amassed a devoted global community – affectionately known as the Royals – gathering over 1 million followers on TikTok and Instagram, 500k on YouTube, and surpassing 90 million streams across platforms. Following a sold-out European tour, the duo embarked on another whirlwind of more than 20 shows across the continent, delivering standout performances in the UK, Germany, and the Netherlands. In January 2026, they will take their live show to Australia, promising yet another unforgettable chapter in their journey.

 

ROYA’s creativity extends beyond the studio into bold, fan-driven projects. For instance, their pre-save campaign for the track “BOY (Zacaria)” turned fans into co-creators: for every pre-save, Line and Sebastian moved 100 meters away from their studio, letting their audience chart the final location of a mystery pop-up performance. Over 5,000 pre-saves later, the experiment culminated in a surreal live show inside an Icelandic ice cave.

 

Their latest single, “Just Talk,” became a phenomenon before its official release. A 90-second teaser posted in November 2024 ignited a fan-led countdown in the comment sections, amassing over 10 million views and one million likes. The track’s message – that strength can be found in vulnerability – struck a chord with many people. As the duo puts it, “silence cannot keep you safe; don’t wear your secrets like a holy crown.”

 

Through both sound and imagery, ROYA creates an atmosphere of sincerity and connection while keeping things light, playful, and imaginative. Line and Sebastian describe their songwriting process as “fluid, almost intuitive, even spiritual — we always follow the first impulse. Sometimes a single sound becomes the foundation of an entire track. Other times, it’s a story, a word we overhear, or a feeling we’re experiencing.”

 

This summer, the duo will perform at Eurosonic, Southside, and Hurricane, continuing a journey that has been anything but predictable. As ROYA steps into their next chapter, they remain guided by instinct, fueled by their fans, and fearless in chasing every idea, wherever it may lead.
